Who you connected with for feedback. Provide a brief explanation of who they are. Do they qualify as a potential user? Could they be a member of the target audience
I connected with Caitlin Giorgio and Arantza Orengo. Both of them are my peers. We constantly have discussions around these topics, so it was only natural to consult them on this project.
Caitlin has her master's in education from Boston University and is currently a high school english and history teacher in Brooklyn, NY
Arantza Orengo is originally from Puerto Rico and came to the US for college and grad school. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. She has a unique perspective on interracial/intercultural relationships and how her high school taught sex ed through a strict Latinx community lens.
How you connected (face-to-face, email, survey with several participants, etc.).
I talked with these connections in person, but have been communicating over the phone both before and after the meeting. Both contacts continually send me helpful links or other contacts that are relevant to my project.
What you shared and what questions you asked. Think about a strategic line of questioning and approach to presenting your work. What features make the most sense to share in order to gain feedback from this user?
I showed my prototype which definitely got them in the right head frame, but honestly I got the most feedback just by opening up the dialogue and hitting key topics like “What’s something that wasn’t covered in your sex ed classes that you felt unprepared for?” “What's a myth someone told you about sex ed?" "Do you think girls and boys should be separated when you talk about sex ed so that they're more comfortable opening up or will this hinder them not learning about all the sides of it?" etc.
What feedback they provided.
Caitlin helped me organize my topics by grade level and relevancy so that teens would get the right information at the right time. She also showed me her outline for how she plans a lesson and has been a consistent contact for checking if the program the program is structured in a usual way.
Arantza helped me fill in gaps for teens from her community and what they would be struggling with during those teenage years. She also helped provide another viewpoint on topics I already had.
Briefly indicate what you plan to do according to the feedback you received. In other words, given what you're hearing, what do you think will need to be adjusted moving forward?
After Caitlin's meeting, I was able to provide a deeper and clearer summary of what could be expected for the modules on the programs page. I was also able to better articulate how this program could actually be implemented having using her lesson plan outline to think out actual lessons. She's going to continue to be a source of information to check in with and will also be able to link me to the target audience (her students) when it comes time to build out the survey.
After Arantza's meeting, I added an interracial / intercultural section to the curriculum and further developed the identity sections I already had listed as topics. She's also linked me to other contacts in the medical and education fields that I'm going to reach out to. I'm going to continue to include her perspective in the additional deliverables to help hit the target audience in her community.
